Tempt your delegates to a venue with unique delegate experience aspects.

Delegate Experience Cambridge College

With all the expected facilities to run a modern event and reliable, friendly service Murray Edwards College offers the delegate experience you need and more.

The College is part of the University of Cambridge, so delegates will enjoy your event in one of the finest educational establishments in the world. From our location, they can sample the best of Cambridge city and the other Colleges or even go further afield.

Further information about other aspects of the College, such as tours of our world-renowned New Hall Art Collection is detailed below.

The Women’s Art Collection

Murray Edwards College is home to more than 450 modern and contemporary artworks by women artists – widely regarded as the most significant collection of its kind in Europe.

The Women’s Art Collection is located throughout our contemporary College, which is light and airy, providing a spacious setting for the paintings, drawings and sculptures by Maggi Hambling, Dame Paula Rego, Gillian Ayres and Barbara Hepworth among many others.

The Collection and Your Event

Art can be used as a pathway to explore concepts outside the art world, such as leadership and teamwork. It can inspire your delegates to think creatively, develop innovative ideas and bring fresh perspectives to your event.

The collection gives the College a unique and inspiring atmosphere, enhancing many of the spaces used for events such as meetings, conferences, fine dining and outdoor events.

Event organisers can further enhance the appeal of their events by incorporating a private Art Tour. A tour of this prestigious art collection can add significant value to your event and the delegate experience. Tours can be arranged to fit with your event agenda.

Even if there is not space in your agenda for a tour, The Women’s Art Collection is free for delegates to self-tour and we have supporting resources for them to do this before or after your event or, if it is a residential event, during scheduled leisure time.

There could be many reasons for adding a garden party to your event, such as networking or a thank you for employees’ hard work. Often, organisations tie this into their AGM.

We can offer BBQs in our beautiful gardens for up to 200 people and, as you can see from the photographs, inflatables and games are encouraged! All we ask is that any ideas are discussed with us first, so that we can properly plan for them.

If a shorter, more low-key event is required, we can also offer drinks and canapes or a buffet.

See our menus and talk to us about adding a garden event to your day.

We can film your event and edit the footage so it is suitable for purpose. This can include simply “topping and tailing” the footage, so that it is focused solely on the speakers, not including change overs or audience arrivals and departures through to overlaying additional messaging onto the slides, adding music and credits.

Event films can be used for a variety of purposes such as video content for your website, sharing via social media, training or sending to people who could not make the live event. It can also be shared to remind people of the event and encourage connections.

For more complex technical needs, we partner with fantastic local agency Venue Audio Visual. They have worked with us many times and know the site and equipment well. They also offer a range of options for hybrid and virtual conferencing.

If you have any questions, please get in touch or see our Filming and Editing Packages webpage.

“We are a Cambridge College garden celebrating flowers, fun, creativity, experimentation and plantsmanship. The gardeners, students and extended Murray Edwards family are creating through stories, memories and experiences a real and imagined ‘people’s garden’ where you can pick the flowers, eat the fruit, walk barefoot on the grass, hang out with friends, be close to nature and think with clarity.” – About Us

Take a tour round our fabulous gardens with our knowledgeable and friendly gardeners. The College is built in the grounds of The Orchard, a large house part-owned by Norah Barlow, granddaughter of Charles Darwin and a distinguished plants woman.

The original buildings on the site of the Orchard, Huntingdon Road, were designed by Chamberlin, Powell and Bonn who also designed The Barbican . More details about our buildings are gardens can be found on the College website.

A garden tour can bring a welcome break of fresh air to your event, allowing delegates time to breathe, collect their thoughts and return to the meeting refreshed and inspired. A real delegate experience.

Our College gardens have been included in a coffee table book called ‘Cambridge College Gardens” by Tim Richardson. The book does not include all Colleges but MEC was selected and the book features photographs of both the gardeners and the gardens. The book has been reviewed in the Telegraph with the Top 10 gardens in the article also featuring MEC and including a photograph.

Networking, making new connections and reconnecting with people is often cited as the most useful and long-lasting factor in an event. Both our conference centres, Buckingham House and Paula Browne House, have spacious, light foyers conducive to networking.

If you would prefer a space that your delegates have not used during the day, to reinvigorate people after the meeting, we can offer our recently refurbished Fellows’ Drawing Room or rooms in the heart of the College, including the College Bar.

If you are organising a very large networking event, our Dome Dining Hall is a spectacular and spacious option.
